Sgt. Boggs died following a brief illness, leaving a tremendous impression on his fellow officers, the towns he served, and the state he committed his entire 18-year career to.

Sgt. Jared Boggs of the Kentucky State Police died after a brief illness. Boggs graduated with Cadet Class 84 from the Kentucky State Police Academy on December 20, 2005, and went on to serve at KSP Post 10 in Harlan, according to Kentucky State Police. In 2017, he was promoted to sergeant.

Kentucky State Police Sergeant Jared Boggs, a well-known and respected person in Harlan, died unexpectedly, leaving the law enforcement community and the state of Kentucky in mourning.

Sgt. Boggs, of Kentucky State Police Post 10, died recently after a brief illness, leaving a tremendous impression on his loved ones, coworkers, and the community he dutifully served for 18 years.

Sgt. Jared Landon Boggs, born in Harlan, Kentucky, dedicated his life to public service and law enforcement. Throughout his career, he demonstrated unfailing professionalism, devotion, and loyalty to the Commonwealth. 

His excellent service was acknowledged in 2017 with a promotion to sergeant, a monument to his leadership abilities and outstanding services to the force.

Sgt. Boggs was described as a great trooper, a terrific guy, and a dedicated parent by Harlan County Judge-Executive Dan Mosley. These thoughts show Sgt. Boggs’ high appreciation among those who knew him professionally and personally.

Sgt. Boggs had a penchant for automotive repair in addition to his professional successes, and he excelled in baseball and basketball. He was recognized for his acts of service, his passion for grilling, and tight friendship with his pals, affectionately known as “The Bristol Boys.”

Sgt. Boggs’ visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm inside the Harlan High School gymnasium, followed by the funeral.

Sgt. Boggs will be guarded by a Kentucky State Police Honor Guard, with members of the Kentucky State Police serving as pallbearers.

Sergeant Jared Boggs’ death not only leaves a vacuum in the law enforcement community but also in the lives of his loved ones and the people he served.

His enduring legacy will be his passion for justice, expertise, and dedication. May his soul rest in peace, and his family and friends find comfort and strength in this trying time.

The loss of Sgt. Boggs has echoed across the law enforcement community and beyond, evoking a flood of tributes and condolences. Governor Andy Beshear thanked Sgt. Boggs for his loyal service, recognizing the sacrifices he made to protect the people of Kentucky.

He will be laid to rest in the Harlan County Memorial Garden.

Sgt. Boggs’ family has asked that donations be sent to Harlan Little League, P.O. Box 1005, Harlan, Ky., or Harlan Independent Schools, 420 E. Central Street, Harlan, Ky., instead of flowers.
